Adding value to our homes a quality cedar closet is high on the list. These beautiful feature in our homes have been popularized by the DIY show along with the travel shows featuring B & B’s.  Along with being beautiful cedar is very useful in keeping our valuable clothes safe.

Part of the juniper family of trees, that are native to North America. What we all love about cedar is its aroma, which comes from the beige center of the tree. This aroma is not only pleasing but it is an odor remover as well. It is this property that makes it uniquely qualified to help out in our closets.

Something else that cedar does is that it tends to collect moisture. How great is that, for instance when we put our winter clothes in there after being out in the snow and what not. Not to be limited to the northern cold climates, cedar is also favored in humid places because the moisture can make clothes smell as well. It is actually coming from mold and mildew in the clothes. By helping to keep moisture levels low, cedar help eliminate this problem.

An important note about cedar is that its grain is so tight it does not need sealing. It is this feature that lets us use it in our closets and smell that wonderful aroma. So how about bugs? Yes cedar helps with this too.

After some time our cedar closet may lose some of that wonderful fragrance. The key here is that the wood may be getting a build up of dust.  To get that aroma back, lightly sand it with a light sandpaper. This will take off the build up and restore the aroma to your closet. There is nothing like a quality cedar closet to add some wow factor to your home.
